RISD Alumni Make A Better Future
With a RISD alumna, Rosanne Somerson 76 ID, serving as president for the first time, Rhode Island School of Design is producing a new series of video profiles to explore the various ways alumni artists and designers shape our world today and are poised to invent the future.
In this first film, alumni artists and designers Tanya Aguiñiga MFA 05 FD, Michael Maltzan BArch 85, Shahzia Sikander MFA 94 PT/PR and Gus Van Sant 75 FAV join the president in discussing the impact of RISD’s immersive, studio-based education on their individual practices. Leaders at the forefront of their creative fields, each suggests various ways critical thinking and hands-on making are more relevant than ever for producing meaningful work “of consequence” and meeting the complex needs of the 21st century.
Michael Maltzan: RISD Making The Future
In this profile, Los Angeles architect Michael Maltzan BArch 85 discusses his bringing design to projects that have a huge effect on day-to-day lives—the One Santa Fe mixed-use complex, affordable apartments for the Skid Row Housing Trust and the forthcoming 6th Street Viaduct.
